Our history

 Chris and Heather Monroe opened Midnight Espresso in March of 2013 as the culmination of a 20 year-old dream and an extension of their desire to drink really, really good coffee every day. Chris had the business plan in his drawer from 1992 that was gathering dust, but has always wanted to have his own coffee shop. The new building and location of their other businesses gave the Monroes the perfect opportunity to realize this dream. The Monroes originally thought Midnight would be a small shop that would serve the customers from their other businesses, but Midnight evolved into so much more thanks to the creativity, talents and loyalty of their staff. Blending a commitment to superior coffee with a farm to table approach to our food, Midnight is unique in central Illinois. The menu changes as often as ingredients are available and our coffees change monthly as we highlight amazing roasters and beans from around the country and the world. Special events offer variety as we have a Sunday Supper Series as well as a weekly brunch menu that is constantly evolving. Our commitment is to offer the highest quality ingredients, the best service and a welcoming environment for all people to enjoy.

Beans

Our beans are expertly sourced from award-winning roasters across the country. We highlight different roasters to offer you variety in your coffee drinking experience. 

Freshness

The beans we serve are always within two weeks of their roast date. Then, they are ground fresh when you order and hand brewed in one of several methods.

Method

All of our brew methods are weighed and timed throughout each part of the process so we can maintain quality control and consistency every time. 

Ingredients

We care about the food we serve you, which is why we make everything in-house from scratch. Our ingredients are seasonal, fresh and local whenever possible.

Staff

Our staff is devoted to quality, and continued training and improvement on every menu item.

Trial+Error

Every drink we serve has been fashioned by our staff and has been honed over countless trials to bring you the best drink, every time.

Water

Our Mavea water filtration system insures the highest quality water is included in your drink. Central Illinois water can be harsh and we use one of the finest filtration systems in the market to protect the integrity of our drinks.

Machine

Our La Marzocco espresso machine was hand made in Florence, Italy specifically for our shop. La Marzocco is considered the best in the world at their craft and we would have nothing else. 

Obsession

We are coffee obsessed. We love to talk about coffee and welcome our customers' stories, feedback, and ideas. From growing beans to making drinks, and everything in between, we love to talk coffee.
